2nd Grade Chair and Science Teacher

Kristin Dennis

 

Ms. Dennis is a graduate from the University of Vermont. She also studied at the University of Cape Town when she lived in South Africa during her junior year of college. Currently, she attends Arkansas State University where she is completing her Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction online. Ms. Dennis is from Saratoga Springs, New York, but has been in the beautiful Rhode Island for five years. She loves being outside, reading, cooking, and traveling. 

2nd Grade Writing Teacher

Caitlyn Gwynn    

 

Miss Gwynn graduated from Arizona State University with her BA in Elementary Education in. Miss. Gwynn was thrilled to accept her position as a 2nd grade at BVP in 2013 and has loved putting scholars on the path to college readiness and beyond. This year she will be teaching writing and guided reading and can't wait to see how much the 2nd grade scholars grow! In her free time Miss. Gwynn loves to run and play with her cat Finn

2nd Grade Homeroom Teacher - UVM

Emily Kawai    

 

 

Ms. Kawai graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. She just moved to Rhode Island from New York and is so excited to get to know her new state. Ms. Kawai loves to travel, and her favorite place to visit is Tokyo, where her grandmother lives! She also loves to dance and play the piano. She’s looking forward to having an awesome year!

2nd Grade Math Teacher

Gabrielle Porcaro        

 

 

Better known as Miss Mounsey, Ms. Porcaro is newly married, and is excited to be the brand new math teacher for 2nd grade! When not teaching, she enjoys reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

2nd Grade Homeroom Teacher - Columbia

Brian Joyce

 

Mr. Joyce is excited to be joining the 2nd grade team as a homeroom teacher. Originally hailing from Philadelphia, which left him a lowly Eagles fan, he now resides in Lincoln, RI. Mr. Joyce received his BA in Elementary Education and History from Rhode Island College. In his free time he loves to write music and books, spend time with his family, and watch football! He is excited to greet the brand new Columbia Lions to 2nd grade!

Casey Rainha      

 

 

My name is Casey Rainha and I am so excited to get to teach both First and Second grade again this year! I am a lifelong Cumberland resident and went to Rhode Island College. Prior to making my way to Blackstone Valley Prep, I worked at the Northern Rhode Island Collaborative. I worked with students with varying abilities. I like to spend my free time coaching soccer, spending time with family and friends and diving into a good book.

Jefferey Wright    
 

Mr. Wright is a native Rhode Islander who is in his second year at BVP. He is excited to work with scholars and help them continue to develop into the leaders of tomorrow. When Mr. Wright isn't working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, volunteering or playing in various sports leagues (kickball, dodgeball and basketball).

Kara Floyd
 

Mrs. Floyd graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with degrees in both English and in Religious Studies. She also earned her Masters in Education from the University of Saint Thomas and is currently working towards her special education certification. Mrs. Floyd will be working with the second graders this year to help them become even better readers.  She is very excited about this! When she is not at school, Mrs. Floyd loves spending time with her husband and her two year old daughter. She enjoys dancing, reading, and drawing. Mrs. Floyd is eager to start another fun year at BVP!

Special Education Chair

Stephanie Cournoyer

 

Ms. Cournoyer graduated from Providence College and is thrilled to teach not one, but two grades at BVP!  She is the special education teacher for second and third grade students.  She enthusiastically provides instruction in multiple content areas to students individually, in small groups and sometimes in their classrooms!  When Ms. Cournoyer isn't helping prepare students for success, she keeps life interesting with her various hobbies!  She is an experimental chef, upbeat Zumba dancer, world traveler, dynamite defensive field hockey player and pet enthusiast! Ms. Cournoyer also  loves enjoying the little quirks and celebrations of life with family and friends.
